Porsche 997 TechArt: Preparing for Winter Storage
58To summarize there are a few major things one needs to consider:
1) Look to stabilize the fuel.
2) Inflate the tires to around 50 PSI to avoid flat spots from long standing times.
3) Have it on a trickle charger as the on board computer is always on.
...and if at all possible move the car a few feet every week.
Porsche 997 Turbo (TechArt) in the Snow - Winter Driving and Storage
If you don't intend to drive it a lot that you should always stabilize the fuel. It's preferred to use a NON ethanol fuel / or race fuel source for storage. Ethanol is a killer if left to sit as it attracts water and separates quickly causing major gumming and corrosion issues.
I would stay away from the plastic covers - they are nutorious for leaving micro scratches in the paint and more importantly they don't let moisture through. Your car needs to breath to keep moisture out. Another tip may be to keep a slight crack in the window to keep the air flowing and moisture in/out of the cabin. You could also go with one tighter fitting OEM Porsche cover, alternatively a more loose, multi layer cover for more protection (strangely enough, cotton bed-sheets work great!).
Running/Idling the Car:
Every 30 days or so it is beneficial to have someone start the car and let it run to full operating temperature, for about 30 minutes total. This evaporates moisture from inside the engine, and helps prevent seals from drying out.
